One of the many debates about golf cart usage is whether you are better off with a gas-powered golf cart or an electric golf cart. There are benefits and drawbacks to each style of cart, but you won’t be able to make an informed decision until you know what those are. Fortunately, the fine people at Dever Golf Car Sales have drawn up this comparison between gas and electric golf carts to help you determine which style is best for your needs and budget. Our dealership has locations in Louisville and Lexington to better serve all our Kentucky customers. Come to us with any questions you may have about golf cart styles after reading this guide!

Gas-Powered Golf Carts

Gas golf carts require much less routine maintenance than electric carts, which is probably their biggest draw. Other than scheduling a yearly service to change the oil, replace filters, & look everything over, there's very little needed to keep your cart in top shape. Another benefit of gas golf carts is the range. While a majority of electric carts are limited to two rounds of golf, a tank of gas will last you 200+ miles. Being able to refuel wherever you want is a major benefit as well, an electric car will require access to power.

On the other hand, while refueling a gas golf cart is quick and simple, gasoline-fueled vehicles in general are harder on the environment. The smell and exhaust from gas golf carts can linger on the golf course, and if your cart is poorly maintained, it could leak fluids onto the grass. Carbon monoxide emissions from gas-powered vehicles can also pose a threat to your health when you’re in a confined space, such as parking in a small garage or shed. Gas-powered golf carts also make much more noise than electric, which can disturb other golfers on an otherwise quiet course

Electric Golf Carts

If you want a greener option for your golf cart, one that doesn’t produce any emissions, you’ll want to go with an electric golf cart. These carts won’t impact the course nearly as much as gasoline-powered golf carts because they won’t produce any noxious smells or leak gasoline anywhere. Electric carts cost less both to purchase and to maintain, and recharging the battery is much less expensive than buying gasoline. Used electric carts are often cheaper than gas carts, and there are more of them available on the market.

However, electric carts can be more difficult to master when it comes to driving. You may also not be able to tell when your electric cart is about to run out of power, and towing or pushing your cart off the course can be a huge pain if you misjudge the timing. It takes a long time to recharge the batteries, so you won’t have your cart available to you at all times.
