Your Used Golf Cart Inspection Guide
Want a golf cart on a budget? Buying a used golf cart is the way to go. The nice thing about used golf carts is that they tend to maintain their value over time, compared to new models, and golf carts are built to be durable. It is important to thoroughly inspect any used golf cart that interests you, though, before you buy it. Here’s what to examine.
Figure Out the Power Type
Golf carts may be either gas or electric, with each type having its benefits. Determine which type you’re looking at, then examine either the battery on an electric cart or the engine of a gas golf cart. The electric battery should be clean, with snug connections. The fluids in the gas engine need to be clean and topped up. Watch for signs of corrosion.
Obtain Maintenance Records
Looking over the service records for the used golf cart you want will help you decide if it was taken care of properly by prior owners. The records will show you when the battery was replaced, when fluids were changed, when tires were swapped out, and when major repairs were performed.
Test Ride the Cart
If possible, you should request to do a test ride of the used golf cart before you buy it. Listen for strange noises while you ride and watch for smoke from a gas engine. Speed up and slow down so that you can test the brake system. If everything is to your satisfaction, then you’ve found your cart!
