Using Your Golf Cart In The Rain
Now that spring is here, it’s time to think about how the weather can impact your trips to the golf course. While a little sprinkle shouldn’t prohibit anyone from playing a round, you may be more concerned about what rain can do to your golf cart and how you can drive safely in wet conditions. You certainly don’t want your cart to sustain damage after all you’ve invested in it!
Dever Golf Car Sales is your Kentucky golf cart dealer, with locations in Lexington and Louisville. As your local dealer, we’re here to help you however we can. Here are our tips for using your cart in the rain safely and responsibly.
Can Golf Carts Handle Rain?
Yes, but only to a point. If you’re already on the course when it starts raining lightly, then your cart will probably be fine, even if it’s electric. The roof should hold just fine and if you have a windshield, then you should be pretty sheltered from the drops.
However, you don’t want to have your golf cart out in the rain when it’s heavy or sustained, as the interior of your cart can get wet and the electrical elements under your cart can be damaged if you’re cruising through puddles. Obviously, if there’s thunder and lightning, you need to abandon your game and get indoors as quickly as possible, storing your cart indoors as well if you can. This is why it’s smart to check the weather before you head out.
If you have to store your cart outside, it’s a good idea to place a tarp over it to keep it dry and protected, or to park it underneath a carport.
Safe Driving Tips
As noted above, you should avoid driving your golf cart through deep puddles to prevent damage to its undercarriage. Here are a few more tips for responsible driving in the rain:
- Invest in a set of windshield wipers for your windshield so you can keep it clear and improve your visibility as you drive.
- Stay on top of golf cart maintenance, especially your tires, as these can lose traction in slippery conditions. You should make sure that your tires have good treads and are aired up correctly so they can gain purchase as you drive, even on wet ground.
- Slow down your speed significantly in the rain and try to avoid even going up any slopes or inclines, as you’re more likely to overturn the cart or slide back down.
We hope these tips help you to use your golf cart safely in rainy conditions. Visit one of our two Kentucky locations today to check out our fine selection of new and used golf carts for sale. Dever Golf Car Sales proudly serves both Lexington and Louisville, KY.
