Gas Golf Cart Buying Guide
While electric models maintain over 70% of the market share when it comes to golf carts, gas-powered models have a great deal to offer and, in some cases, will be the more practical choice.
If you want a golf cart that can tackle hills or be turned into an off-roading vehicle, for example, then you’ll want a gas golf cart because gasoline engines are more powerful and provide more speed to help you overcome tough terrain. Gas golf carts are also easy to keep fueled up and you don’t have to worry about charging them.
When shopping for a gas golf cart, here are the things you’ll want to keep in mind.
Usage
Think about how you plan to use your gas golf cart. People use these carts for so many different purposes these days, from the standard drives around a course to riding through neighborhoods to crossing college campuses to providing transportation at airports or for janitorial services in a big shopping mall. Some people even outfit their gas golf carts with knobby tires and other features that make them more suitable for off-road riding, like a powersports vehicle.
Consider whether you’re using your golf cart for light riding purposes or if you need something that’s more utilitarian or heavy-duty in nature. You don’t want to end up with a golf cart that isn’t powerful enough to do everything you need it to do, after all.
Passengers & Cargo
Next, think about how many people and how much stuff you’re going to need your golf cart to carry. If you’re riding by yourself most of the time, a typical two-seater model with a little cargo space will be sufficient. However, if you want to take the whole family or a group of friends out for a round of golf or a ride around the neighborhood, you’re going to need anywhere from four to eight seats, preferably with more space for cargo.
Speed
Another important factor when shopping for a gas golf cart is how fast you want it to go. While most golf carts can’t go over 25 miles per hour, typically, some are much slower than this and may not be powerful or fast enough for your riding purposes. The more powerful the engine, the more speed you can generally get out of a gas golf cart, although there will always be a limit to this, since golf carts simply aren’t designed to go extremely fast.
