Driving Your Golf Cart at Night
If you have a golf cart that is street-legal (with the features necessary to have it registered that way), then you probably get a lot of usage out of it. Golf carts like this are excellent for use in retirement communities, on campuses, and in residential neighborhoods. However, it is important to follow best safety practices when driving after dark.
Use Your Lights
A golf cart that’s driven after sunset simply has to have lights on it. Otherwise, how are you going to be able to see anything? Make sure that your lights are functioning properly before you depart, and that they’re bright enough to illuminate the path several feet in front of you.
Stick to the Speed Limit
While golf carts can’t actually go that fast, with the fastest models topping out at around 25 miles per hour, this speed can be quite excessive in some areas. If there’s a lot of foot traffic, bicycles, or obstacles in the way, you’re going to have to slow down to make sure you can react to road conditions and avoid an accident.
Clean Your Windshield
Being able to see clearly at night also means that you need a clear view of the way ahead. Make sure your windshield is clean, both inside and out, before you start riding after dark. Streaks or debris on your windshield can cause glare and make it hard to see if anything is in your way.
